March of Giants characters: the confirmed Giant roster in the Pioneer Playtest, how dreams and nightmares shape their kits, and what each one does in 4v4.

The March of Giants characters are called Giants, and the confirmed roster for the Pioneer Playtest gives you nine of them by name plus several more seen in community coverage. Each Giant is a battlefield commander with its own abilities and its own way of leading Soldiers, and they are all described by Ubisoft as creatures born from the dreams and nightmares of front-line troops.

The confirmed playtest roster

Ubisoft's official playtest briefing names the active Giants and gives each one a title, which is the most reliable list available while the build is live. Here are the confirmed names and what Ubisoft says they do.

| Giant | Title | What Ubisoft says it does | | --- | --- | --- | | Victoria | Dream of Victory | Her immolation spear burns away any enemy in her path | | Wolfgang | Nightmare of Rage | A brutal officer who unleashes the beast within and leads packs of werewolves | | Voidmaster | Nightmare of the Occult | Reborn to spread corruption through dark cultists and dread ritual | | Strykka | Nightmare of Agony | A secretive figure who lives again to deliver shocking punishment | | Kragg | Nightmare of Strength | Caged brutality, disruptive charges and earth-shaking crowd control | | Oriane | Dream of Peace | A chivalrous duelist who strikes with deadly precision | | Iron Sister | Dream of the War Effort | Uses her crucible to forge hazardous zones and molten magma | | Trench Maw | Nightmare of the Battlefield | A living troop carrier that burrows to ambush enemies with waves of Soldiers | | Ossuary | Nightmare of the Fallen | A swift specter that phases past defenses and unleashes phantom Soldiers |

The official site has also published Giant Spotlight posts for Elaris, Ossuary, Voidmaster, Wolfgang, Kragg, Solace and Victoria, and community coverage of the same build adds Flint and Goliath to the playable list. Elaris was specifically confirmed as available to all players during the Pioneer Playtest.

What makes a Giant a Giant

Giants are not heroes with a costume change. Ubisoft's own framing is that each Giant is born from the dreams and nightmares of Soldiers on the front lines, and that each has its own identity, playstyle and way of waging war.

That lore shows up in the kits. A Nightmare of Rage leads packs of werewolves, while a Dream of the War Effort forges magma zones. The abilities are built around who the character is, rather than being generic damage tools with different numbers.

Mechanically they cover the usual spectrum in unusual ways: resilient tanks, battlefield controllers and devastating damage dealers. The official site explicitly says the roster supports a wide range of playstyles and offers many ways to synergise with a team, which is why Giant selection matters as much as individual skill.

How the kits are upgraded

Every Giant has a distinct set of abilities that you customise and upgrade during a match, not only between matches. You earn Merits during play, then spend them at the Arsenal to upgrade your Warshell and shape how your Giant fights.

The Arsenal offers four build directions: Kinetic, Alchemic, Survival and Soldiers. Choosing one direction rather than spreading across all four is the standard advice, because a half-finished build loses to a completed one in most matchups.

Blueprints are the individual upgrade pieces, and community feedback during testing suggests they are currently uneven. One detailed feedback post noted that some blueprints only apply to certain abilities, giving the example of Brother Light not getting multi-projectile upgrades that other Giants receive. Treat blueprint parity as an open balance question rather than a settled system.

Roles and pick order in the playtest

The playtest uses a star-based selection system. Per community feedback from testing, the current structure is a three-star plus one-star choice, and in practice players almost always get the three-star pick, which means you can usually play whoever you want.

There is no confirmed ban phase in the playtest. One tester argued for a proper champion select with bans long term, while another argued strongly against it while the roster is small, saying the studio should balance the existing characters first rather than add draft rules.

Notes from the same testing rounds put the roster at roughly fifteen characters, and described many Giants as slow and heavy with few mobility options. That is useful context when you are choosing a main: mobility is a scarce resource, so characters with dashes and escapes play very differently from the ones without.

Community impressions of specific Giants

Player impressions are unusually useful right now because the playtest is under no NDA. Victoria is frequently described as one of the best-realised designs, with stone and metallic skin rather than a human look, and her flamethrower is widely called out as a hard counter to troop-based characters.

Brother Light is described as fun, durable and unique, but his ultimate was widely criticised in alpha feedback as underwhelming, and his flock is vulnerable to area clears. Iron Sister is also cited as a strong example of a humanoid Giant done well.

Not every design landed. Some testers said Solace, Flint, Oriane and the new Goliath look too human and out of place compared with the more construct-like Giants, and asked for more metallic or eldritch details. That is a matter of taste rather than a balance problem.

What is still 待确认

The final roster size is not confirmed. A testing comment mentions fifteen characters, but Ubisoft has not published a locked count, and the roster was still growing during the playtest window with new Spotlight reveals.

Whether every Giant seen in community videos is playable in the current build is also 待确认, since some footage comes from the earlier Closed Alpha. A character called Kraken appears in feedback only as a crowd-control reference and is not on any confirmed roster list.

Balance observations, including shield strength and match length complaints, come from a small number of testers and should be treated as 待确认 until the studio publishes its own patch notes.
